One Decision to Change Your World

The other day my boyfriend and I were having a conversation about how small things can change your life.  At first I was a little skeptical because I generally believe that even if I changed a few of my decisions I would still be at the same place in my life.  However, that is completely untrue. I can see where large decisions like where you went to college, the job you picked, etc would majorly alter your life if you chose differently.

My sophomore year I lived with one of my good friends in a newer dorm and it was very expensive. We had been Orientation Leaders over the summer and had a good deal of leadership experience.  I didn’t really want to be wasting my money on this dorm anymore so I decided to apply to be a Resident Assistant so that I wouldn’t have to pay for my housing. Well, I was hired only a month after I applied and moved out halfway through the year to work the spring semester.

If I hadn’t lived in Allegheny with Jess, I would not have applied to be an RA. Not only would I not have many of the friends I have now but I never would have officially met my boyfriend. What’s funny is that we had met once when I lived in Allegheny but it was for about 5 minutes. By becoming an RA, one of my residents, Meghan, introduced us. We had completely different majors, activities, and lives so if it wasn’t for Meghan we never would have dated.

If we had never dated I never would have applied for my current job or moved to Media. My life would be completely different than it is now. I almost wish I could just see how it could have turned out. I know a lot of things would have gone differently for the last two years.

When you think about life it’s really scary to realize that one small decision can affect your whole world. You could be dating someone different, living in a different city, working at a different job, and have different friends.  Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?

I do.
